Salt Lake City, UT – Less than 24 hours after he received a 99 percent rating from the Club For Growth, Senator Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, was recognized today by the American Conservative Union (ACU) as one of the Senate's "Defenders of Liberty."
Hatch said the award is especially gratifying in light of past recognition from the ACU. "I received a 100 percent score in 2010, and a repeat of that achievement in 2011 is a great honor," he said. "These scores reflect my commitment to the conservative values shared by my fellow Utahns."
The award was limited to the 9 Senators who earned a 100 percent rating from the ACU. The list included fellow Utah Senator Mike Lee, as well as Senators like Tom Coburn, R-Okla.; Jim DeMint, R-S.C.; Rand Paul, R-KY; and Marco Rubio, R-Fla.
For more than 40 years the ACU has ranked members of Congress based on their votes on key conservative issues. These issues range from constitutionally limited government, free markets, personal liberty and a strong national defense. Click here for a list of all ACU 2011 Congressional ratings.
